If I could go out today & buy all the things I would love for a Dreamy~New~Bedroom, these lovelies would add up to be my new boudoir.
Just doing a little dreaming, thought I’d share…

…and the freakin’ huge US map I was wanting a couple of weeks ago, I’d like to have it in my dreamy new bedroom… that way every morning & every night I can remember where I’ve been and I’m where I’m going.

WISH LIST: Rustic Pink Bedroom

I have a new decorating job starting this morning with a family that I adore… I’ve worked with them for years on different projects and I very clearly remember helping them get their daughter’s nursery together just a few weeks before she was born. The mom-to-be called me in a panic because it suddenly occured to her that her baby would be here any day & the room wasn’t perfect. Her husband couldn’t begin to understand what the big deal was, but I totally got it & we got it done in plenty of time.

Well tomorrow we are going to work on that baby girl’s “big girl” room to celebrate her 3rd birthday {before we know it we’ll be decorating her dorm room}. As we’ve talked about what to do & how to do it I have started to imagine a room a lot like the one above… very sweet and feminine, but not too ooey-gooey. This is the kind of room where a little girl can grow into a little lady.

Hope y’all had a great Memorial Day weekend!! We have been working hard on re-doing our kichen cabinets ~ scraping, painting & cleaning the messes we make in the process. The boys have been “helping” which adds double duty to the whole process. I’m happy to say it’s about done and we are ready to move on to the next house project…

But first we will be spending next weekend in Branson {it’s like Vegas in the Midwest but with a less than stellar hip factor}. The big road trip to said city is in honor of our oldest boy’s 8th birthday. He is OBSESSED with the Titanic and Branson offers a Titanic Museum which is the epitome of grandness when you are 8 years old and determined to be a boat captain when you grow up. I think it sounds like a noble career goal ~ especially if we can stow away every now and then…

Anyway… as I mentally prepare for the impending weekend and the time that will be spent learning about the Titanic, I can’t keep but thinking how fun it would be to switch his room from the current train theme to something more nautical… thus this week’s Water Bound Wish List.

I came across Cindy’s Antique Quilts website last night and was sucked in quickly with her excellent assortment of vintage quilts, Americana textiles, Western antiques and Native blankets… most of it in mint condition.

{Some of the items are SOLD but they are so fantastic I had to share.}

1920’s Oregon City Indian Trade Blanket
I’ve always wanted to use vintage blankets like this one as upholstery on a big chair. For a short time, several years ago, I worked with a company that used these vintage blankets to make extraordinary coats. Great ideas… but would you be willing to cut them up??

Poppytalk Handmade: a marketplace for emerging artists.

Most of you have probably perused Poppytalk Handmade, but in case you haven’t here’s a short introduction… Poppytalk Handmade is the brain child of a Vancouver based couple who seek to showcase handmade art from emerging artists. They have a revolving selection of artist who show their wares on virtual “tables” ~ think of it as a virtual marketplace that you can visit any time day or night {not just on a chilly Saturday morning once a month in a local parking lot}.

I spent yesterday with a great friend and talented businesswoman, Jan Orr Harter from Hot Tamale Antiques in Ft. Worth, Texas. Jan has specialized in Western and Americana antiques for years and it was a great opportunity to shop/junk with her all day with her and see things with a fresh perspective. We stumbled on a gorgeous hooked rug that she encouraged me to buy ~ it really is a beautiful example of Americana Folk Art, all hand hooked with mid-century fabrics. And I love the way that it looks in the store!!

Later last night I was thumbing through an old Country Living Magazine from 2005 and ran across a blurb about HookedonVermont.com… check out their beautiful pillows and rugs…

I’ve seen hooked rugs and pillows for years and normally pass them up without a second thought. I’m excited to have this fresh idea for our store and the house ~ it feels good to bring a little color into the mix of neutrals!!

The idea of being a real life COWGIRL holds a tremendous amount of romance and intrigue. For me it does, anyway… the idea of a hard day’s work out under a big blue sky, followed by an evening under the stars being serenaded by a rugged cowboy… Now I know damn well that isn’t how it really works, but it’s definitely that notion that lures folks from every sort of life to want a little Western vibe in their homes.

It’s a long story of how that happened but imagine my surprise when a few years later I opened a magazine and saw that very same room where I had slept. Have you ever painted a room chocolate brown?? Do you think it would feel dingy after a few weeks?? Should there be a CRYSTAL chandelier abve the bed, or an ANTLER chandelier, or maybe something ENTIRELY DIFFERENT??

Just a few of the questions rolling through my head when I’m avoiding real life questions like, “what the hell am I going to make for dinner??”
