Artist Jeanne F. Goodman

Thursday, November 6th, 2008

Last week I introduced a phenomenal artist that I had met at Kansas City’s Plaza Art Fair.  Today I would like to introduce another talented artist from my afternoon at the Plaza Art Fair… Jeanne F. Goodman from Norfolk, Virginia.

Jeanne’s juxtaposition of blank space and live objects offers her audience alternate perspectives of how a subject is viewed.  While Jeanne’s mediums include musicians, firemen, and a gallery of people, I was particularly drawn to her ANIMALS.

Working exclusively with colored pencils, Jeanne often starts with a photograph.  On her website Jeanne describes her process this way: “Most of my work is derived from photographs. Often I’ll begin by focusing on a single person or element within that photograph, then let my imagination take over.”

With a presence in galleries from New York to Los Angeles, Jeanne has an impressive range that appeals to an array of collectors and decorators.  Jeanne also travels to Art Shows across the country displaying and selling her work.

Lodge * Western * Country homes would all be a bit brighter with Jeanne’s unique style.  As I look at the images that Jeanne graciously allowed me to share I am particularly drawn to the peaceful image of Cows in the piece above.  Wouldn’t this be a brilliant pop of color in a space that is primarily decked out in shades of blue??  Love it…  Thank you Jeanne!!

Artist Ray Hartl’s EQUINE PHOTOGRAPHS

Wednesday, October 29th, 2008

A few weeks ago I attended the Plaza Art Fair in Kansas City.  As always it was packed with delicious food & drink, and FABULOUS ARTISTSOne gentleman’s work that caught my eye was Ray Hartl.  Ray’s website offers several portfolios of his images, including an Architecture Series that you will LOVE.  Today, however, I am so pleased to share Ray Hartl’s Equine Photography.

Ray’s intimate images typify the affections that a horse owner has for their animal.  The work, time and affection that creates a bond between horse and man is a treasured relationship that has endured for centuries.  It is the reflection of these cherished relationships that makes your heart skip a beat at Ray’s work.

Often mistaken for paintings, Ray’s vivid captures on film reveal the strength and beauty of his subjects.  About his equine subjects, Ray says this, “I portray the equine form in a manner that is both sculptural and sensual. Working close-up, I search for moments of beauty and grace that are revealed in the body language of these intelligent animals.”

If you have never collected art, or photography, this series would be a beautiful entry into the life of an accumulator.  These images can be ordered from Ray’s website HERE.  They are available in three different sizes, including a 30″ x 30″ that would be a stunning addition to a great room or fireplace.

More {Cowboy Toys} Artwork for the Cowpokes…

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

At the 23rd Brookside Arts Festival {Brookside is one of the fabulous neighborhoods that makes Kansas City so special – don’t miss it if you’re in our neck of the woods!!} I came across Larry Stephenson and his colorful watercolors of TOYZ!!

The cowboys were my favorite, of course, but the trains got a nod from Wyatt {#1} when he was with me in Brookside - no surprise there.

'Train Wreck' by Larry Stephenson

I also loved the fishing lure {BELOW} that is on Larry’s website.  As I emailed with Larry about this BLOG, and then spent some time on his website, I was touched by Larry’s apparent devotion to his wife and three grown sons.  They love to fish and go on big adventures together which is AWESOME and totally inspiring!!

'Gone Fishin' by Larry Stephenson

Larry offers glicees of his original art work – an affordable way to begin an art collection and also perfect for a kiddo’s room.

'Hey Dude' by Larry Stephenson

If, however, you are looking for an original from Larry Stephenson then check out the three pieces {BELOW}.  According to Larry, “All have been done within the last three weeks.  They are framed inside shadow boxes and I include the actual antique lead toys that I used for models to paint the paintings.  The “Yee Ha!” painting has actual confetti that I made and painted floating down from the sky.  When framed the cowboy and lead cactus were included.”
