Lucky Star Leather Collection

Tuesday, August 31st, 2010

The Lucky Star Gallery is owned by mother-daughter team Harriette & Missy Allison.  Based in Reno, Nevada, Lucky Star Gallery specializes in Western art, jewelry, home decor and leather accessories. In the last month the duo has launched a new website, The Lucky Star Leather Collection, an exclusive line of leather products that are one of a kind in their designs, quality, and classic Western style.

Lucky Star Cowtown Handbag

Each of the designs from The Lucky Star Leather Collection is the brain child of Harriette Allison.  Harriette won the prestigious Best of Show award at the Western Design Conference in 2009 for the beautiful Painted Ponies Chair {below}.  Harriette first began creating leather designs in the late nineties when she was hobbying around at night trying new techniques with wood dying and sewing.  Her first large project was an upholstered set of 1950’s wagon wheel furniture.  It was showcased in a store window and after raving reviews Harriette knew she had found a new art about which she could become passionate.

Every single item that you see in The Lucky Star Leather Collection is hand made in their shop in Reno.  Harriette designs and hand cuts the finest leathers for both inside and outside of each piece, while a local saddle maker hand stitches each item.  The work is the same quality as that of a saddle ~ it will last you a lifetime.

 Lucky Star Gallery Leather Collection

Harriette and Missy recently teamed up with jewelry designer Nancy Anderson from Sweetbird Studio to produce an exclusive line of handmade leather belts {ABOVE}.  Harriette has also been working on a new line of guitar straps like one seen with Juni Fisher {BELOW}.  In addition to offering custom straps for any musical instrument Harriette is also working on another new line of Western-Retro inspired handbags.

Friday, August 27th, 2010

Most of you have probably perused Poppytalk Handmade, but in case you haven’t here’s a short introduction… Poppytalk Handmade is the brain child of a Vancouver based couple who seek to showcase handmade art from emerging artists.  They have a revolving selection of artist who show their wares on virtual “tables” ~ think of it as a virtual marketplace that you can visit any time day or night {not just on a chilly Saturday morning once a month in a local parking lot}.

Here are a few of my favorite artists from Poppytalk’s Aug ‘10 selection…

Patricia Wolf Fashion Show

Friday, August 13th, 2010

A few pics from designer Patricia Wolf’s recent cat walk at the Miss Rodeo Texas Fashion Show Gala…

Patricia Wolf

See more pics from the fashion show right HERE.  Do you have a favorite??

Mine is the long white dress… wearing a white dress seems like an exercise in futility for me ~ between the boys and the store it would be no time before it was covered in Cheeto dust, cat hair, and grease from some ol’ rusty something or other… but it’s fun to imagine a warm night in Mexico, on the beach, in a long white dress ~ someday that time will come again!!  That’s going to happen again someday isn’t it??

Dishes ~ Baubles & Corn Salad by Ross Svebeck

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

Ross SvebackMeet Ross Sveback… If you don’t already know his name I think you will soon. He sent me a note not long ago about his new line of dishware & I was instantly hooked to his website ~ Kon-Tent.com ~ which is full of ideas about how to maximize your lifestyle ~ from tips on buying linens, to DELICIOUS recipes, to his own line of products, Ross has a completely interesting perspective on lifestyle that this world needs!!

 Faux Bois Dishware

So first is Ross’ line of dinnerware which is really wonderful… there are three patterns ~ Faux Bois, Danish Fern and also Tweed.  All three feature a rich chocolate brown & bright white palette which gives you the opportunity to mix and match the patterns creating your own unique tabletop.  You can go to his website and purchase the dinnerware directly from Ross ~ he is also working directly with retailers who are interested in selling his merchandise.

Danish Fern Dishware

Ross also just released a new line of jewelry inspired by TRAVEL and the open road… it’s a  perfect reminder of those childhood vacations with Mom & Dad in the back of the station wagon, and even better reminder to make sure you also get your kiddos out onto the blacktop!!

Vintage Travel Baubles

In addition to all of his other enterprises Ross teaches cooking, and posts recipes that look truly DIVINE!!  Check out his Summer Corn Salad ~ he has instantly solved your dilemma about what to take to this weekend’s BBQ ~ enjoy!!

Summer Corn Salad

SUMMER CORN SALAD

8 ears corn, husked and kernels removed

4 tbsp butter

6 tbsp olive oil

4 garlic cloves, minced

1 tbsp thyme

1 bunch of green onions, chopped

1 pt. cherry tomatoes, halved

6 oz feta cheese, cubed or crumbled

4 tbsp fresh basil, chopped

Salt & pepper to taste

In a large frying pan, heat butter and half the olive oil. Add garlic and thyme, sauté for one minute. Add green onions and corn, sauté for 3-4 minutes. Remove from stove, pour into a bowl and set aside.

In a separate bowl mix together the other half olive oil, tomatoes, feta and basil.

Once corn mixture has come to room temperature, add tomato mixture – season with salt and pepper. Taste to adjust seasonings and serve.

Sounds wonderful!! Thanks, Ross, for all of your inspiration!!! xoxofancy

Thursday, July 8th, 2010

Every week we look at a different item that you can save from the trash pile ~ find in a junk drawer or antique store ~ and then transform into something useful or fun for your home or closet or jewelry box.  This week is bullets.  YEP, bullets.

My Grandpa Summers re~loads his own bullets for target shooting and he always has empty shells available.  Those empty shells are perfect for Junk Jobs big and small… mostly jewelry to which there seems to be no limit of ideas.  Here are a few that we found from some the very best re-purposing folks in the marketplace.

INTERVIEW: Tasha Polizzi

Friday, June 25th, 2010

Tasha Polizzi is a home and fashion designer based on the North coast in Great Barrington, Massachusetts.  With career roots that go back to the iconic Ralph Lauren and Banana Republic, Tasha’s sense of American Style is spot on.  Part of what sets Tasha Polizzi apart is having her finger on the pulse of trends in nearby New York City, and everything that is happening in the mainstream world of fashion.  But it is her commitment to a style that includes Soft WESTERN * HIP Vintage * and a Rock Star vibe that have made her a regarded designer in the Western, Rustic and Americana marketplace.

Tasha Polizzi

CACTUS: Tell me about your background in the fashion industry.

TASHA: I am originally from Pittsburgh and was doing some local modeling. Geofrey Beane was doing a trunk show in Pittsburgh and I was one of his models…long story short, he invited me to come to New York and work for him as his showroom model. From there I expanded my career and modeled for many of the top American and European designers doing print, runway and fit, until I was offered a position on Ralph Lauren’s design team. I became head of Women’s design within some period of time and spent over nine years at Polo. I then had a similar position with Calvin Klein for two years and spent some time at the Gap heading the Women’s design team in the Banana Repulic division for Mickey Drexler, before starting my own business.

Tasha Polizzi

CACTUS: How did working for Ralph Lauren influence your style?

TASHA: Ralph is, in my opinion, the most creative and brilliant American designer. His vision is incredible and his sense of style is amazing. Having modeled for Ralph, I was somewhat familiar with his work, so, the transition to his design team, for me, was not as difficult. I shared his enthusiasm for good design and quality garments that were classic, comfortable and fit well. He was also a great teacher and anyone who has ever spent time with him or worked with him cannot help but be influenced by his vision and creativity.

 Tasha Polizzi

CACTUS: How did you come to design your own line?

TASHA: It was only a natural transition for me to have my own business and the freedom to follow my own instincts..

CACTUS: How would you describe the Tasha Polizzi brand?

TASHA: Comfortable, classic, casual, somewhat elegant weekend and country lifestyle…….

CACTUS: What inspires your lines?

TASHA: Everything… films, magazines.

 Tasha Polizzi

CACTUS: Many designers in the Western * Rustic marketplace are based in Texas or the Southwest. How does living in the North give you a different perspective on this style?

TASHA: In a way it gives us an advantage as we are constantly in New York looking at fabric, trim and following what is current in the market. We also don’t view our collections as only “Western” but more a weekend lifestyle that works on the range, in the mountains or at the beach.

 Tasha Polizzi

CACTUS: Do you think that “Western Americana” is going more mainstream??

TASHA: Western Americana will always be popular as it, along with jazz, is the true American form. It will trend in and out, but for the most part remain popular. Every American kid wanted to be a cowgirl or cowboy at one time or another…and many still do. Yes, I see Western as continuing to grow in popularity.

CACTUS: You went to the Brimfield Antique Show in Massachusetts a few weeks ago, what did you look for when you were there shopping?

TASHA: Always looking for fabrics, old leather garments, prints, jewelery, and anything that might translate into an item or collection.

CACTUS: What kind of personal collections do you have?

TASHA: My husband and I have been collecting native American weavings, baskets, jewelery, primitive American furniture and country items. I also have a very extensive library of garments, hand bags, small leather, accessories, fabrics and prints.

Tasha Polizzi

CACTUS: What kind of trends do you see on the horizon?

TASHA: Fringe remains strong… Boho getting more sophisticated…. Women can’t get enough faux fur.

CACTUS: What trends are you glad to see go?

TASHA: Hula Hoops!

CACTUS: What’s next for your business?

TASHA: We are expanding our business into more leather accessories and lifestyle items for the home. We are also now exporting to markets in Japan and Europe.

 Tasha Polizzi

CACTUS: If somebody is interested in purchasing Tasha Polizzi for their closets, home, or carrying the lines in their store, how should they contact you?

TASHA: Although we have one small store in the Berkshires of Massachussetts, we try to direct all inquiries to one of our retail accounts or catalogs. Our website at tashapolizzi.com is geared to the wholesale market, but anyone can get contact information by a visit here. Prospective retailers can also get information about our showrooms (Dallas, Denver, New York, Great Barrington) or market schedule by visiting our website.

All of these images are from Tasha Polizzi’s Fall 10 Line so keep your eye on your local stores and websites.  There are some gorgeous designs in this collection ~ can’t wait to see them in person!!!!!

Thanks Tasha & John… xo,fancy
