Native American Double D Ranch T shirt

I am in love with this T Shirt from Double D Ranch!!  Cupid would be doing really, really good with this one.  It’s from SPRING 2012 so it’s not quite available yet.  But it will be soon, before the end of the month.  Cupid can just give a picture of the tee, then the real thing will be delivered later.  It’s like getting a happy gift twice.

RUSTIC * EARTHY * ORGANIC BANGLES & more from Tamara Ruiz

Organic Bangle Bracelets from Tamara Ruiz

Tamara Ruiz sent over some pictures of her newest jewelry designs… I just adore these bracelets!!  The set of ten stacking bangles are made from several different kinds of wire;  steel, copper and bronze.  She makes all of the bangles by hand, even the ones that are wrapped with vintage fabrics and fibers.  The bangles are all about texture . . . . coiled and hammered wire;  vintage frayed silk;  leather cord;  vintage muslin and jute; handspun yarns and fibers; and wrapped with a confetti of small beads.

Organic Bangle Bracelets from Tamara Ruiz

A single coil of wire is loaded with organic beads of bone, lava, horn, agate, and wood.  Wire coils, vintage fabric, leather, vintage buttons and resin beads complete the bracelet with an earthy, natural twist.  This will look so great with tank tops and sun dresess this summer!!

BALANCE Necklace by Tamara Ruiz

Three strands of green turquoise beads and nuggets, wrapped and hammered steel, vintage brass African trade bead, hand stamped copper tag, vintage Chinese coin, a small piece of frayed chartreuse silk, and a plump, carved melon bead comprise the design elements of this necklace.  BALANCED, as the tag reads, by the muted shades of green and the combination of textures.

 Talisman Necklace from Tamara Ruiz

The talisman necklace is one of Tamara’s favorite necklaces to make, so it’s only natural that it also features a lot of her favorite elements – - acid etched metal, fossilized shells, beads of carved bone, wood, and recycled glass in many different shapes, coiled and hammered wire, chunks of agate, a big vintage brass trade bead from Africa and a couple of found objects.  A variety of textures brought together by the harmony of a neutral palette.

LOVE Tamara’s style and organic approach to her jewelry… THANK You Tamara, xofancy

lovin’ these LEATHER Bracelets…

Leather Cuff Bracelet

Nothing says TOUGH GIRL like a leather bracelet… truth is they’re everywhere {I’ve even seen them in ~ insert gasp ~ Wal Mart}, but there is a distinctive difference between the “real-thing” and the less-than-real-thing.  One of my favorite designers is Karen Kell {below}… her leather products are out of this world ~ be sure to check out her ETSY store HERE ~ shoes, jewelry, bags, they are all super-fine.

Karen Kell Leather Bracelet

I’m also really loving the leather bracelets & goods from Michelle Verbeeck {below}… these Medical ID bracelets are very hip & necessary, and all of her other goods feature significant messages, or you can have a custom one made.  Love them!!

Leather Bracelet

One more to love on before I have to open the shop & get to workin’… this is from Colin Francis.  His work is more masculine & edgy ~ great look for the dude you love {ahem, Valentines is just a hop skip & jump awaaay}.

UPCYCLED JEWELERY: Elemintz

Thursday, December 29th, 2011

Elemintz Upcycled Jewelry

This past summer a gal {Tina Binette} came into the Cactus Creek Shop & I immediately noticed her bracelet & necklace.  Upcycled jewelry is all the rage but hers really stood out to me.  It was clear that each piece took a lot of time, and that a lot of thought had been put into it.  Heart and soul, too.

 Elemintz Upcycled Jewelry

She was kind enough to send me one of her pieces {a bracelet titled ‘finding hope & peace in a screwed up world’} and I wear it almost every day.  Ok, I wear it every single day because no one wants hope & peace {in a screwed up world} more than me.  Tina recently completed her website and I wanted to share it with you…

 Elemintz Upcycled Jewelry

The name of her business is ELEMINTZ ~ Where all the elements come together and I just think she’s the cat’s meow.  In addition to the work shown on her website Tina can also do custom pieces honoring the people or things you love the most.  The day we met at the shop she had on a necklace & bracelet to honor her son’s friend, a soldier who had been killed in action.  They were very touching and very hip {aka not cheesey}.

 Elemintz Upcycled Jewelry

Tina is a start up like we all are and I hope you’ll check out her site, make a purchase, share it with everyone you know!!!  Thanks Tina for the wonderful bracelet, you’re the BEST!!!  xofancy

MERCHANDISE GUIDE: Yellow Boots

Wednesday, December 28th, 2011

Yellow Rustic Western Vintage Boots

The official color of 2012 has been announced by Pantone… and the winner is Tangerine Tango {let’s just call it orange-ish to keep it simple}.  I love orange-ish.  It goes with black or brown, it makes a big statement in a room as a paint color, and it looks better than you would think on a red-head-like-me.  But this little ROUND UP isn’t about orange-ish.

Yellow Rustic Western Vintage Boots

It’s about YELLOW.  Another color that is often associated with a food category when described as ‘mustard yellow’.  I started my search for the Yellow Boots when I stumbled on No. 4 {ABOVE} from Need Supply Co.  My mind began to race through every outfit in my closet and HOW good these little yellow booo-ties would go just perfectly all winter long.  Then I thought yellow could go a long way in any style, so here you go, a YELLOW BOOT ROUND UP.  enjoy.  {and yes, I know that yellow is soooo last year, but i still like it so there.}

Love these new Totem Necklaces from Schaef Designs!!  The necklaces are made of items that Schaef Designs owner, Bobby Schaefer, has collected over the years including antique & vintage items, as well as recently acquired items.

Western Southwestern Totem Necklaces

Bobby has re-purposed earrings, pendants, fetishes, pins and more for these great pieces.  She calls them totem necklaces as most have animals in addition to many other items.  Of course they are a Schaef Designs collection and each is a one of a kind original!!!

NEW October Jewelry from Tamara Ruiz!!

Wednesday, October 26th, 2011

We have some new necklaces to feature from our friend Tamara Ruiz… fresh in time for fall. I would love to have any one of these necklaces for sweaters this winter!!

Tamara Ruiz Necklaces

Chunky beads, bone, bronze, Bakelite and a vintage button . . . . all combined in a cool, tribal look perfect for fall. Muted fall colors of amber, rusty red, bronze, weathered black, ivory and chocolate brown are the predominant colors of this necklace. All beads and elements individually wire-wrapped and linked with bronze wire. A rustic focal of a wire-wrapped fossilized bone found on an East Coast beach, with a vintage die dangling below, complete the piece.

Tamara Ruiz Jewelry

Nuggets, carved, faceted, shaped, and polished beads in beautiful shades of turquoise comprise the beaded strand of this necklace. A forged steel connector bar wrapped in small beads and vintage fabric with a wheel of recycled glass, a vintage trade bead with a yellow turquoise carved melon rondelle, a hammered copper etched bar, and patterned links of a metal chain and bell charm; hang together from a “charm catcher” forged wire hoop to form a cluster drop completely focused on texture.

Tamara Ruiz Jewelry

A fossilized piece of sand dollar, wire-wrapped to a hammered copper medallion, forms the centerpiece of this rustic three-strand necklace. The beaded strand is a mix of vintage trade and resin beads, bone, mother-of-pearl, wood and brass; all wire-wrapped and linked with bronze wire. The second strand is copper wire crocheted with tiny, vintage glass pearls; and the third strand is a supple piece of deerskin leather. A forged bronze clasp and links complete the necklace.

Tamara Ruiz Jewlery

Strands of small beads, pearls and shells in Southwestern desert colors are softly twined together in this necklace. The talisman charm focal consists of a forged steel connector bar wrapped in vintage, tea stained muslin, a length of ribbon in shades of plum, and tiny, vintage glass pearls – - with a chunk of agate dangling below; a stacked bar of puka and oyster shells; a hammered silver bar hand-stamped “begin”; and more dangles of carved bone and a spiral shell with just a tinge of pink. Forged bronze wire forms the end wraps, clasp and closure links of the necklace.
