IN THE PRESS: Dave Newman in Phoenix Home & Garden

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

I just adore artist Dave Newman & his lovely wife Donna… they are fun lovin’, road trippin’, creative souls that own Newman Gallery located on Historic Whiskey Row in Prescott, Arizona. They opened in July of 2001 in the 100 year old St. Michael Hotel, in the heart of downtown, situated across from the Courthouse Square.

In addition to their retail endeavors Dave Newman is a highly recognized artist whose mixed media art is pure Americana.  Dave’s art is featured in the March 2010 issue of Phoenix Home & Garden Magazine and he has once again impressed me to no end…

IN THE MAILBOX: KC Spaces, June/July 2009

Thursday, June 18th, 2009

I adore living in the Midwest.  As a Native Texan it is easy to miss my home state, but the Midwest is very simple and calm…
and the rolling hills and four seasons are a delight.

That said, it kind of chaps my hide that people are surprised when STYLE emerges from us Kansas, Missouri, and occasionally even Nebraska {kidding cornhuskers…}

The magazine that Kansas City turns to for STYLE is definitely Spaces.  Here’s a sneak peek as to why I am particularly loving this month’s issue…

 KC Spaces Magazine

Aaron Leimkuehler}

The two images {ABOVE} are from an 1800’s log home that was moved right here to Platte County {my neck of the woods}.  The family restored the cabin and put an addition on it.  I just LOVE it when a log home has a BRIGHT & UNCLUTTERED feeling like this one does.  The botanical prints from Terry Evans provide a current vibe that completes the space.

“Oh beautiful house, how many ways do I love thee??”   The 2nd home in the two images {ABOVE} is a modern barn {my favorite} with simple rustic furnishings and just a hint of color {turquoise ~ how bold!!}.  But my very favorite feature of this home is the barn door set on a sliding rail.  Hubby, I think we’ve found our new dream barn…

IN THE MAILBOX: Country Home {the final issue} * Country Living * Architectural Digest * KC Spaces

Tuesday, March 17th, 2009

With so many magazines closing it makes each home decorating issue I receive a true treasure… you have to wonder if you’ll ever again open your mailbox to see a pretty room staring back up at you.  At the rate we are going print magazines are going to become as antiquated as 8-tracks. That said, this week I have received four of my faves
IN THE MAILBOX and I had to share them!!

Country Home
{Country Home, April 2009 ~ THE FINAL ISSUE}

First lets pay homage to the Final Issue of Country Home magazine.  Sigh.  What can I say??  Country Home has been a source of hip, country style and sweet ideas for years…
You will be sorely missed CH!!

In this issue I fell particularly hard for this Vacation Home in Santa Fe.  The clean, slip covered sofas, muted colors and simple table are a look with eternal class.  BTW, this home is owned by Renea Abbott, owner of Shabby Slips in Houston.  And the FABULOUS painting of a cowgirl on the wall is from Austin artist Bob Wade.

 Junk Gypsy in Country Living
{Country Living, April 2009}

Next up is a gal we know and love ~ 1/3 of the Junk Gypsy crew ~ Ms. Amie Sikes.  She is looking as gorgeous as always in Country Living’s Guide to achieving Cowgirl Flair
Tips from Amie include:

  1. Chunky Belts from Ariat {buy them HERE}
  2. Old Gringo boots {you can get these in Gypsyville, too!!}
  3. Lone Star Music, particularly Miranda Lambert.

** And may I add that a Junk Gypsy tee is also a MUST!!  Congrats, Amie ~ great list!!

Architectural Digest
{Architectural Digest, April 2009}

I just love it when Architectural Digest throws a Rustic Home into their collection… they are always fantasy abodes that I may never own, but I adore the inspiration!!  This issue’s story about a 10,000 sq ft home in Ontario is titled “Rustic Redefined”.  Soaring ceilings and picture~perfect views make it an absolute dream home!!  You can see a slide show of the entire home right HEREWhat is your favorite feature in this home??  I adore the windows and, of course, the use of reclaimed barn wood.

SPACES Magazine
{Kansas City SPACES, March 2009}

This one is from Kansas City’s premier Interiors magazine, SPACES.  The featured home is that of the devine Debbie Dusenberry of Curious Sofa here in KC.  Debbie’s store is one of my favorites to slip into for inspirational ideas when I’m looking for clean interiors, neutral palettes and rustic re-purposing.  Debbie is one of the most talented merchants I’ve known ~ check her out HERE,
and her popular blog right HERE.

BTW ~ This is NOT the first time Debbie’s home and store have been published ~ she is a rising star in interiors and, in my opinion, will undoubtedly be a household name someday!!  Don’t miss this chance to get to know her now.

In the MAILBOX: Architectural Digest, Nov 2008

Tuesday, November 18th, 2008

Architectural DigestI don’t subscribe to Architectural Digest. My best gal pal, Maggie, has a free subscription which she passes on to me every six weeks or so. But the other day I was perusing the magazine aisle and decided to flip through the Architectural Digest that is currently on the newsstands. Have you seen it?? Holey cow… it is AMAZING!!! I couldn’t wait for Maggie to show up with my free copy, I bought it right then.

The November 2008 issue of Architectural Digest features their annual look at “Hollywood at Home”. There are many images of movie stars from the last 50 years, and their homes that were au courant at the height of their fame. It is an interesting journey to learn bits and peices about the lives of stars such as John Wayne, Marilyn Monroe and Matthew McConaughey ~ and the surroundings that they have chosen to affect their lives. Really no other “thing” is as personal as our homes, the place we go to be alone, be ourselves, and enjoy the people who mean the most to us.

AD Nov 2008
{ABOVE & BELOW ~ Architectural Digest, Nov 2008 : Diane Keaton’s Home : Photographs by Scott Frances}

Two of the featured homes are particularly spectacular to those of us driven by all things Rustic * Western * Vintage. Diane Keaton’s Beverly Hill’s Spanish Colonial Revival {images ABOVE & BELOW} literally made my heart beat skip. Keaton collaborated with Stephen Shadley to create the quintessential Spanish interior.
It is simple, full of fine art, and spot on in every sense.

AD Nov 2008

Dennis Quaid’s LA home  {image BELOW} is also full of timeless style mixed with rough textures and earthen colors. It is a fine design palette that typifies the world of rustic design with modern appeal, an aesthetic that the designers of the 21st century are perfecting.
