GREEN ROOM Decorating {the color not the cause}

Just posted this fantastic SHABBY * INDUSTRIAL * VINTAGE Green Gooseneck Lamp {top pic above}… I don’t want to let it go, it’s my color, my style…. but there is no place for it right now and someone else {maybe you??} will love it forever so here you go. If I had the green room bedroom {bottom pic above} it then I would NEVER let it go!! it would look too good…

Got me to thinking about GREEN and what kind of rooms are out there to inspire other perfect-for-me-and-you looks?? A few ideas….. the pillows {above} are fantastic, and the room {above} is one of my personal favorites!! shades of green and gray and turquoise… heaven.

WISH LIST: Rustic Pink Bedroom

I have a new decorating job starting this morning with a family that I adore… I’ve worked with them for years on different projects and I very clearly remember helping them get their daughter’s nursery together just a few weeks before she was born. The mom-to-be called me in a panic because it suddenly occured to her that her baby would be here any day & the room wasn’t perfect. Her husband couldn’t begin to understand what the big deal was, but I totally got it & we got it done in plenty of time.

Well tomorrow we are going to work on that baby girl’s “big girl” room to celebrate her 3rd birthday {before we know it we’ll be decorating her dorm room}. As we’ve talked about what to do & how to do it I have started to imagine a room a lot like the one above… very sweet and feminine, but not too ooey-gooey. This is the kind of room where a little girl can grow into a little lady.

It’s the little touches that add warmth & familiarity to any space, especially important for the white on white spaces to keep them from feeling sparse. Like everything else, it’s all about balance…

WISH LIST: Water Bound

Hope y’all had a great Memorial Day weekend!! We have been working hard on re-doing our kichen cabinets ~ scraping, painting & cleaning the messes we make in the process. The boys have been “helping” which adds double duty to the whole process. I’m happy to say it’s about done and we are ready to move on to the next house project…

But first we will be spending next weekend in Branson {it’s like Vegas in the Midwest but with a less than stellar hip factor}. The big road trip to said city is in honor of our oldest boy’s 8th birthday. He is OBSESSED with the Titanic and Branson offers a Titanic Museum which is the epitome of grandness when you are 8 years old and determined to be a boat captain when you grow up. I think it sounds like a noble career goal ~ especially if we can stow away every now and then…

Anyway… as I mentally prepare for the impending weekend and the time that will be spent learning about the Titanic, I can’t keep but thinking how fun it would be to switch his room from the current train theme to something more nautical… thus this week’s Water Bound Wish List.

Decorating with ANTLERS * HORNS * SKULLS & MOUNTS is an expected choice if your home is Rustic or Western or Lodge. But sometimes I’ll run across an antler in the last expected place and I’m always impressed that it makes such a statement. Especially impressive is the collection of antlers or horns… It is really the epitome of bringing the outdoors in.

I’ve loved this one from Country Living for a long time now.

but this one is also making me want to do some serious re-decorating ~ I’m not so sure that these walls aren’t dark purple/eggplant which would normally make me say ewww, but I don’t know, I’m kind of liking it, especially with the cactus green…

INSPIRATION: Urban Country = Industrial Rustic

One of my favorite houses EVER from Country Living Magazine {Oct 2008}… this home was the first time that I saw industrial done in a way that made me say wow ~ I like that. I’d like to have a look like that. I wonder how many other people were inspired by this house and how much it contributed to the industrial look going main stream…

Now there are so many sources for the industrial look, and ideas for mixing it with a rustic element, but it is still a fresh look that everyone does in their own way… here are a few sources if you’re looking to make this happen in your house.
