Cactus Creek STORE… New Space * New Hours * and a BIG~O Weekend!!

Over the last month the Cactus Creek STORE has had a bit of a growth spurt.  Mid October we were presented with an opportunity to move into a different space in downtown Weston, MO ~ after about 2 seconds of consideration we didn’t just jump into it, we took a Gi*Normous LEAP of FAITH and moved everything into a 2000 sq foot space across the street from our old place, and also increased our hours to be
OPEN Tuesday thru Saturday from 10am till 5pm.

Before I get into the nitty gritty details of the new space let me tell you what’s happening this weekend {Nov. 21st & 22nd, 2009}… Every December Weston MO hosts a Christmas Homes Tour with several homes dressed in their best Christmas cheer.  This weekend’s annual tour will include four antebellum homes along with two downtown lofts of the same era {I’m especially excited to see the lofts!!}.

Father Christmas will also be roaming the streets… it’s not too late to get your pictures with him for Holiday cards!!  Sooo, be sure to visit Weston this weekend to fill your soul with a little Christmas Cheer and of course, swing by the new Cactus Creek STORE.  We’ll be open all day Saturday and we’re excited to show off our new space ~ hope to see you!!!!!

Now that business is taken of I’m excited to share all of the details about the new Cactus Creek STORE.  Let me warn you, this is a long one… As some of you know we opened our first Cactus Creek Store almost ten years ago when we operated out of the barn behind our home, then we moved into a large store in Weston MO.  Before I had boy #2 we closed that space because, frankly, I was totally overwhelmed with such a big store and the idea of also being a mommy to two.  I’ve never once regretted closing that store ~ it was the right thing to do at the time.  I needed a break to spend time with babies {boy #3 came within another year after that}, and I also took some time to help my husb launch his business.  I also had the opportunity to start CactusCreekDaily.com which has helped me to see my own business, and the Western * Rustic * Vintage market in general, in a whole new light.

Cactus Creek STORE

Last April we opened a new Cactus Creek STORE in a teeny~tiny space here in Weston MO… the idea was to have an office for me to work out of for the website and also to meet with the decorating clients that I’ve continued to work with over the last few years.  We’ve also had several special events featuring artists and trunk shows throughout the summer.  Well, after that new little space was open for about two weeks, I got bit reallllly badly by the ‘merchant bug’.  I quickly realized that I was ready for another real store, even though that was the last thing I was expecting for myself.

Cactus Creek STORE

So, with this new aspiration filling my heart, I started looking around Weston’s downtown district with a whole new perspective.  There was a building just caddy corner to us that I had admired as long as we’ve lived in Weston… it had been on the market for a while and I imagined that if I won the lottery then I just might buy that building.  Didn’t know what I would use it for, but it was a great building.  But now, with my BIG new DREAMS, I realized that the building could be the perfect place for the new Cactus Creek STORE; it could also be an opportunity for our family to make a big move and a sound investment.

Cactus Creek STORE

Well, I could ramble for another 1000 words about the journey that led us into actually having the store in this building… the ups & downs, the heartbreak & disappointment, the new opportunities & joy when it all finally came together.  I will tell you that God’s hand was so clearly involved that it was unquestionable that this was the right decision.

Cactus Creek STORE

Sooo, let me tell you a little about “the building”.  It was built in 1910 and was originally called “Doppler’s Mercantile”.  Since then it has been a Western Auto, a barber shop/bar, a theater, and most recently an antique store which was also named “Doppler’s Mercantile” as an affectionate ode to the building’s first life.  I’m still learning more about the history of the building… other things it was used for, all of the different people who lived there.  Yes, lived there… it has a BIG apartment above the store space that is currently unoccupied… hmmm, what to do with a large unoccupied apartment right above my store???

Cactus Creek STORE

That leads us to the BIG PLAN.  Now that we have the store all moved into the first floor of the building, our family is preparing to embark on a move of our own.  We hope to sell our house and move into the apartment above the store.  It will be another leap of faith, and definitely a rocky road, but as I said before, we feel like it’s the right thing for us right now and a good stepping stone to getting us out to our dream Barn House on our farm… that is still the big goal at the end of all of this.  I am excited to get started and looking forward to sharing that journey with those of you who will read along with us as we MOVE DOWNTOWN… more on that soon enough.

 Cactus Creek STORE

The other part of the BIG PLAN involves the building’s basement.  As I mentioned the prior occupants of the building had an antique store… their store had vendor booths on both the 1st floor of the building, and also in the basement.  The basement is move in ready for NEW VENDORS!!  That’s the next big thing happening… our search for vendors for what we will call the Cactus Creek Marketplace.  The Cactus Creek Marketplace will include several hand picked vendors, all fitting in the Rustic * Western * Vintage niche, to occupy the basement of the new building.  Sooo… do you live in the Kansas City area??  Interested in being considered as a vendor in the Cactus Creek Marketplace??  Just let me know ~ call anytime 816.878.2278 and I can give you the low down.  We hope to have the basement filled to the brim by Feb. 1st so again, it will be a journey that I’ll be writing about a lot and I’ll be looking forward to introducing you to the Marketplace vendors and all of their lovelies.

 Cactus Creek STORE

Phew… I didn’t mean to go on and on like that but it feels good to get it all down.  I’ve been purposely quiet about the changes we’re making, knowing that when the time was right to share I would know it.  I’ve always been one to keep the quietest about those things I desire the most.

Thanks for letting me share all of this… much love to y’all & everyone who has been supporting me and helping me over the last couple of months.  Special thanks to my hubs who puts up with me and all of my BIG ideas…. xoxo
