INSPIRATION: Native American Lodge
Now that the Christmas tree is down, doesn’t the house feel EMPTY?? It is FASCINATING how Americans spend so much time and money filling their homes with Christmas cheer for six weeks, but then hesitate when to invest in their furniture and collections that are meant to bring joy the rest of the year. But, with this economy, who’s not hesitating?? That said, I thought we could all use a little INSPIRATION so I looked through my magazine tear outs and found this Rustic Lodge that is clearly inspired by Native American designs. {I think that this tear out is from an old Architectural Digest.}

There are so many things that make this room extraordinary ~ it is hard to know where to start on finding sources to re-create the CHIEF ambiance this room exudes.

Let’s start at the top. Lighting sets the stage for a room. You can fill your home with furniture from Target and Mattress Mack {not a bad idea if you have three boys under five}, and it will still look RICH if a spectacular fixture lights up the room.

The Native-inspired dining chairs in our INSPIRATION image are hard to duplicate. Patricia Wolf offers extraordinary leather work, and painting on leather. If you are looking for custom designs then start with the Wolfs.
For classic chairs that offer cowboy, cowgirl or Native images then these Tall Back Western Chairs are FABULOUS!!

Navajo Rugs continue to be a highly collectible art form.
They are a true testament to the pride and talent of Native American artists, and their value will only sky rocket in the years ahead. Garland’s Navajo Rugs recently launched their new website where they offer a superb collection of Navajo Rugs… Perfect for putting together your Wish List.

More Antler lighting to set the tone for the space. I have always loved Antler Sconces and their raw beauty.

A clean palette for piling with interesting textiles and brilliant color.

Pendleton is the most obvious place to start when adding a bright pop to your space.
If you are interested in learning more about Indian Blankets then check out Country Home’s Gathering Rainbows article on their website. It is full of great info and gorgeous images!!

Another pop of color and rustic style. I adore the variegation of colors offered with this Double D Pillow.

Laying the groundwork for SWANKY South West STYLE. With a basic upholstered sofa and classic leather chairs, this BRIGHT rug adds character without cluttering the visuals.

Complete the Native American vibe with collectible art figures like those BELOW. These are wonderful treasures that will make you smile every time you look at the delicate details and creative charm that their makers infused. These works are filled with secrets and powers that we can only imagine.

I love that first picture! I dream of owning a ranch house lodge like that someday.
I’m especially a fan of the antler lighting and Pendleton rugs and pillows. They are so expensive though….know of any good knock-offs, more like a Target price-point!? ;)

PG: Hello, thanks for your notes. Actually I do have a good source for you. http://www.saddleblanket.com/store/swsblanketsnbed-ss2.html These folks will hook you up. The quality isn’t the same and they probably won’t be collectible, but they are a great way to get the look on a budget!!
