JIMT Idea: Furniture Artist Rob Gorrell
Furniture artist Rob Gorrell has been making rustic furniture and contemporary tramp art for almost twenty years. Like many artists Rob is committed to using salvaged lumber as often as possible, not only to pass along cost savings to his clients, but also as a part of his effort to re-use and re-cycle.
Whether it be from discarded pallets or lumber that is deemed unacceptable, anytime we can use salvaged wood it is another step towards conserving energy and saving trees ~ just because some wood and building materials look like JUNK to one person’s project, Rob will use the discarded lumber and turn it into something beautiful.
This tramp art mirror {ABOVE} is a great example of a 100% salvaged piece of art… much of the architectural elements on the mirror are furniture pieces that were found & waiting for the trash pile. The other wood is from old pallets, the orange globes are from a glass factory that was discarding the “rejects”, and the mirror has been re-used time and time again since the late 1800’s. That is Recycle * Repurpose * RE-LOVE at it’s BEST!!
