Round Top ANTIQUE WEEK {Fall 09}: Junk Gypsy Company
The other day a friend described the Junk Gypsies as an “iconic brand”. While I agree wholeheartedly I have a sneaking suspicion that the Junk Gypsies themselves would not think of themselves that way. Their humble attitude and grateful disposition is notably anti-diva, and part of what makes the Junk Gypsy Company {started by 2 girls & their mama} so appealing to those who love their style.
Style being an understatement, of course. Often copied but never duplicated, the Junk Gypsy Company has a style defined by a distinctive mix of
* OLD & NEW *
** CRYSTAL tiaras mixed **
with TATTERED jeans & kickin’ cowgirl boots
** velvet sofas with a **
back drop of vintage Americana
** Trucker hats & **
sweet ICED TEA
** Country roads & **
Outlaw MUSIC
In addition to their online business the girls also take the show on the road twice yearly to Warrenton, Texas {a.k.a. the “fleamarket”, a.k.a. “Round Top Antique Week”}. Always one of my favorites to visit while we’re in Texas for Round Top, I took a FEW pics of their BIG TENT, just for you.
With a warehouse in College Station, Texas, an online store, and their jaunts to Round Top {and of course Junk Gypsy Prom}, this family business that started off as a bright idea has become an idyllic way of life for the Junk Gypsies. There are rumors of a brick & mortar store someday, and maybe even a documentary {filming started in Warrenton during their set up at Antique Week this fall}, and of course more fabulous goods coming soon to the website. Whatever they pull out of their TOP HATS, we can hardly wait to see what comes next!! {Maybe they should start with a road trip to Weston, MO?? wink, wink}
My affection for the Junk Gypsy crew comes down to a comment I saw once on their Facebook page… a gal said, “I am going to be true to myself from now on. No more soccer mom here. This is the vibe I had when I was younger and there is no reason not to have it now!” One little company adjusting the attitudes of women across the country… that IS iconic, girls.
