ROUND TOP {Fall 08}: Day 1

Cowgirl Sink5am was an early wake up call this morning ~ especially since I usually don’t go to bed till 2 or 3 am.  Sooo, this post will be the basics with lots of details coming next week… {subscribe HERE to make sure that you don’t miss the details!!}

After landing in Austin we drove an hour East to our Rustic * Western * Vintage mecca ~ Round Top Antique Week.  Day 1 was all about enjoying the tiny town of Round Top and the merchants who hang their hats in the Round Top town square.

We hadn’t been in town for 2 minutes before we were knee-deep in the middle of cowgirl~fabulous goods at Lizzy Lou, a store in the heart of Round Top.  Open year-round, but going full throttle during Antique Week, Lizzy Lou offers exceptional jewelry, clothing, art, iron crosses & other home decor that we LOVED!!

Connie scored a “Charlie Daniels” Size hat and I was blown away by the vintage, painted cowpoke furniture set pictured {BELOW}.  This is going to go fast, folks!!  Email HERE for more info…

We strolled through the vendors set up around the Round Top square, including LOTS of cool cowgirl clothing, hats & jewelry.  We met jeweler Richard Schmidt and his beautiful wife, Janet.  Sundie Ruppert pointed us their way, and now I know why…  They are super-cool folks, very talented and creative.  I look forward to getting to know them better.  In the meantime I took some pics of their jewels {BELOW}, but the photos turned out fuzzy.  I’ll work on more pictures, and more info, on the Schmidts next week…

Last stop before heading back to the hotel: a Texas institution ~ Royer’s Round Top Cafe.  We made our reservations last week and showed up early to enjoy a cold one on the front porch.  Then we feasted like kings queens!!  First, apps: Stuffed Jalapeno and the most delicious “BLT” on earth.  For dinner I had the “Life Is Too Short” Sampler platter which included Angus Pasta, Stuffed Quail and Peach-glazed tenderloin ~ 2 Shiners ~ and hot apple pie & ice cream.  CONFESSION: we brought 2 more pieces of pie back to the hotel room.  I’m DEFINITELY going to have to wear my big-girl pants tomorrow!!  Thanks, Bud!!  It was worth every calorie…
