Round Top, Texas GUIDE ~ PART V
Next week Connie {my mom-in-law and partner in all things cowgirl} and I will head down to Texas for Round Top Antique Week. We are both anxious to get there and indulge in the bounty of all of the things that make Round Top so special… vintage discoveries, yummy food and drink, and many new friends. I have spent this week compiling the Round Top *don’t miss* GUIDE which has been a great way to plot our 52 hours in the heart of TEXAS. As I wind things up I want to mention two more places that are on my *don’t miss* list…
Original Round Top Antiques Fair
now in the BIG RED BARN
Earlier this week we talked about how Round Top Antiques Fair began. What started as a tiny little show {22 vendors in all} produced by Miss Emma Lee Turney 40 years ago, has been re-created over and over again in neighboring fields, Dance Halls & under big tents, making Round Top Antique Week an internationally renown event.
So what ever happened to Miss Emma Lee Turney and the original venue?? Oh, they’re still going STRONG and I can’t wait to visit them!! A couple of years ago Miss Turney sold the Original Round Top Antiques Fair to Susan and Bo Franks. They have maintained the standards set forth by Miss Turney by hosting an exceptional quality of dealers, providing stellar service and adding two new shows in the Summer and Winter.
The Original Round Top Antiques Fair now consists of two venues: Carmine Dance Hall and the Big Red Barn, plus two HUGE tents. While the venues are close in proximity, the luxury of a transport and porter is provided to help you get to and from the parking lot. Food from Royer’s Cafe will also be available {mm, mm, good!!}. There is a $10 charge per person, but the ticket is good for all four days of the show at both of the of the Original Round Top Antiques Fair venues & tents.
To top it off this Fall ‘08, in the Big Red Barn, Mary Emmerling will be signing her new book, Beach Cottages: At Home by the Sea. Mary Emmerling is my biggest professional role model, and I’m practically shaking at the idea of meeting her!!! I’ll keep you posted…
Last but not least on our itinerary is the Round Top Folk Art Fair & Creative Market. After 40 years of Round Top’s biannual Antique BONANZA, Miss Emma Lee Turney is still in the biz producing this show which features “contemporary artisans in many areas of interest including woodcarvers, tinsmiths, custom and twig furniture makers, needle workers, creators of folk dolls, custom floor cloths, bird houses, paintings, country-style fashions, is a source for custom-made accessories, all to enhance the country lifestyle.” WOW!!
As you plan your own trip to Round Top Antique Week you’ll want to use our Round Top GUIDE, and also these websites for reference…
So we’re off!! I’ll probably be light on posts next week but the week after I’ll have FULL reports from all of our Round Top adventures!! I’m still hoping to have reports from Cody High Style, too, so check in for those. Till then, Peace & Blessings!!! xoxo, Fancy

I miss going to Round Top! I went all the time when I was going to A&M (just a hop, skip, and jump away). Now that I am living in Alpine Texas (Big Bend area) with a husband, and a one year old I just haven’t been able to get there lately. It is so much fun to read your blog! Keep up the good work!
