Texas Artist George Boutwell
As a teenager growing up in the ‘burbs of Houston I was on the brink of discovering my love affair with Rustic * Western * Vintage STYLE. As I explored the world of Texas-Type Decor I became a HUGE fan of Texas Artist, George Boutwell. Over the years I would put his calendars and art work on my wish lists and thus ended up with my first collection of Texas-style Art.
When we were in Round Top a few weeks ago I had the pleasure of finally meeting Mr. Boutwell who, BTW, was given the title of “Official Texas State Artist” for 2006. I tried to tell him how much the colors and images that were in his art have inspired me, but the words wouldn’t come to me, so let me try again…
Dear Mr. Boutwell,
Your art spoke to my soul about a more simple way of life, about enjoying sunsets - front porches - and long drives. Your art pointed the way for me and has led me to live a very cool life. Thank you for the inspiration…
Putting all of this into words has led to a greater understanding of the impact that art can have on one’s life.
