Whether you are a merchant, decorator, or collector ~ adding a touch of VINTAGE adds character to your space.

I am excited to share Sweeney’s Emporium with you today!!  A collector and dealer for over 40 years, Fred Sweeney is passionate about his trade, and his customers.  Here is a sneak peek at what you may find at Sweeney’s Emporium

Indian Brave Pinback
This vintage pin {LEFT}, picturing an Indian Brave, was designed for the Omaha StockyardsI would love to use it as a bright addition pinned to a cowhide pillow.  That is just the kind of detail on a sofa or guest bed that sets an interior apart and makes it fabulous!!

Buffalo NY Wooden Sign

Hey BUFFALO, NY!!  This vintage wooden sign {ABOVE} is too perfect for words…  I can just picture it in a kitchen on the next cover of Country Living!!

Vintage Indian Image

Thought to be an original photo with a color added
process {ABOVE}, this vintage image of an indian family {it’s marked Copyright 1899} is certainly one to be treasured.  The image’s mat measures 11″ x 14″ making it perfect for hanging on your television armoire!!  Right or wrong, the doors on our TV armoire are always open so I decided to hang pictures on them… why not??  Here’s the idea:

Cowgirl Gauntlets

Vintage Cowgirl Gauntlets like those {ABOVE} show off nicely in a Shadow Box Coffee Table.  Line the Shadow Box Coffee Table with a brown and white cowhide – then add the Cowgirl Gauntlets paired with vintage cowgirl photos.  Love it!!

Buffal Bill's Wild West Show Program

In a previous lifetime I spent 10 lovely days touring Paris. During that trip I visited Euro Disney Disney Land Resort Paris where I attended the Buffalo Bill Wild West Dinner Show.  It was all Euro-Glam but nevertheless touching to see the spirit of the Wild West being re-created half a world away.  Since then I have longed for a genuine momento from Buffalo Bill’s Wild West Show.  This 1899 Buffalo Bill Program would be a good start in a collection {ah-hem, Hubby!!} .

Santa Fe Trading in Maryland

Monday, July 14th, 2008

Buffalo Frame at Sant Fe Trading Co.After a long night of delays, Wyatt and I are finally back in KC!!  My duties of motherhood await me today, nonetheless I’m excited to share our vacation so I’m going to try to post 3 different blogs today - all of them about the stores we visited in Baltimore and the surrounding area…

First up is a little store we came across in New Market, Maryland (about 45 minutes from Baltimore and about an hour from Washington DC) called Santa Fe Trading Co.

Ben Madrid of Santa Fe Trading Co.

Working from the front rooms of a magnificently restored home, Ben Madrid, the proprietor of Santa Fe Trading Company, is quietly becoming known as a leading dealer of Native American art & jewelry in the area

In addition to the selection of authentic NATIVE AMERICAN jewelry, there is a beautiful collection of vintage artifacts.

Santa Fe Trading Company also offers a unique selection of southwestern-inspired art such as the mask {ABOVE} and the tin ornaments {BELOW}.

Tin Ornaments from Santa Fe Trading Co.

Ben was enthusiastic, passionate, and full of great stories – all of the makings of a great merchant.  I will look forward to visiting Santa Fe Trading Company, and Ben, again on our next visit to MD.
